Upon entering, a step back in time with great service and food reminding me of an original old San Antonio small family owned restaurant. I had doubts about the brisket taco but pleasantly surprised. The cheese enchiladas parallel the many rave reviews, made with cheddar, they rival any though my preference is American cheese. The red salsa, better than most which is extra spicy. Looking forward to my return!

The brisket taco made the 2024 New York Times top 23 dishes. If you've had it you'll know why. Simply outstanding. My neighbor introduced Garcia's to me a couple of years ago and we frequently go there to grab some breakfast. The go to is definitely the brisket taco, however any taco you get will be very good. I really have friend several and have liked them all. Chorizo and potato with cheese is a stand out as well. Hot sauce is great! I like both the green and red.

Son of a brisket, this was one delicious taco! Tips: Go early. This place is standing outside waiting for a seat kind of popular. Parking is limited. There are counter seats available if you're dining alone. As far as their signature taco: Order it on flour, side of pico de gallo, side of guacamole, and dashes of salsa verde. Pair it with lemonade. It's te lo sico good.

Do you have a craving for Mexican breakfast the way abuela used to make? If yes, then this is the place for you! Quick and tasty breakfast tacos that always hit the spot before work! We were seated quickly and the server was very attentive. I ordered a machacado breakfast taco(pictured) and their famous brisket/avocado breakfast taco and let me tell you.. yum! I could sit and eat breakfast tacos all day long in this little restaurant. While the building may be small and quaint the flavor is HUGE!

Their signature brisket taco is no joke: one of the best things I've eaten--ever. And I eat a lot! ;-) Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Cost to worth it rating: 5 (Best taco and best BBQ combined into 1 for $4!!!) Opentableable: no reservations Return worthiness: yes Highlights: - Brisket taco: so juicy, super melt in your mouth tender, bit of char and smoke then add on top of the homemade flour tortillas. Perfection! My son had it without guacamole and mine with. And $4.29! 5 stars - Pork chop taco: literally a thin pork chop with the bone in a tortilla. My son gave it 5 stars - Toast: not sure what it was about this toasted white bread, but he said it was the best thing he ate that meal (and he liked his tacos) . 5 stars - Chile verde: huge chunks of tender stewed pork in a green sauce with medium texture. 4.5 stars - Chorizo huevos seasoned and not spicy sausage and eggs ground and mixed together was very tasty. 4 stars - Atmosphere: small plain room with wallpaper, Disney haunted house type art, and prints with signed by celebrities (eg ZZ Top) - Friendly staff: waitress was so sweet called me mama - 2 salsas in a squirt bottle: green and habenero. Green was fine and I was too timid and heeded the waitress' warning. - You can do takeout and also split your bill within your group - Price: you pay so much more elsewhere for substandard food Midlights: - Queso: orange with fine flavor to dip chips in or spoon on td is, but too soupy of a texture. 3 stars - Chicken fried steak: big portion size, nice flavor could've use a bit more salt, good Krinkle fries. Not sure why my hub ordered one of his fave southern dishes at a place that doesn't specialize in it. 3 stars Lowlights - Wait: 50 minutes. though it was 1230 on a Saturday for 5 of us but worth it! My favorite local meal of the weekend trip. I will be dreaming about this brisket taco for many years to come and hope to be back.

I love coming into this quaint old school Mexican restaurant just north of downtown. They have been in their current location since 1970. The service here has always been excellent and the food is consistently good and comforting! I especially love the brisket tacos and that's what they are known for. I also love the carne guisada tacos here as well. The barbacoa tacos are very delicious as well. You can go wrong stopping by for breakfast here!

Second time here, and it has been worth the drive and wait. Parking is scarce, but you do have plenty of street parking. The staff is very nice and knowledgeable. However, I came here for fabulous Mexican food. This is a typical Mexican restaurant that offers a great ambiance.

I saw Garcia's on a blog post when I was searching for authentic Mexican food and this restaurant was awesome. They do close at 2pm and we just made the cut off... absolutely LOVED the brisket taco with guacamole. One of the Garcia's was there and she was absolutely a delight to speak to. We explained that we had traveled far from home and wanted authentic Mexican food and were beyond thrilled to make it. I can't emphasize how thoroughly impressed I was with not only the quality, but portion sizes were great as well. I am so glad that I found this hidden gem. This place should NOT be missed!
